Optiluiz here, once again wasting time on the internet at an unhealthy hour. How've you been, folks? I guess you could say that I've been taking some time off since the year began, and to be honest. life has actually been quite eventful. In any case, hope you like the first post of the year!
Well, how to begin? This year is actually off to a good start. I once again watched 31 movies in January just for the hell of it, only this time I made mini-reviews on twitter. That was actually fun. What else? Why, the ECB's very own RASG GIRL (Maah) finally visited me in Curitiba in one hell of a crossover event. We made food, watched movies and complained about shit for a while, and it was nice (I'll actually be visiting her early next month, which is also really cool because I've never been to Rio and I want to be able to accurately shit-talk this country when I leave it).
As for the blog, I have big plans for the next few posts, and we might see a return to a more freeform style in the near future. I love the serialized stuff, but honestly sometimes I just want to make idiotic doodles so I feel like killing myself a little less, and I think that's what really matters.
In other news, I'm free from college so I'll be looking to *insert myself* into the workforce through less alternative means. I'm after money, and I figure I have about a year before I can actually move away from this godforsaken country, so I gotta do this fast.
I think that's all for now, but I'm glad we had this little talk. I hope your 2020 is at least as good as mine, and here's to an uncertain future! I'll leave you guys with an earworm that I have yet to shake off.

Optiluiz here once more, nearly in a new decade! Sorry for the delay, but I hope today's post makes it up to you. So, how've you guys been these past few months?
To be honest, I'm really glad that 2019 is almost over. This has been a really stressful year and I'd like the current zeitgeist to be over with. It's not all bad, of course, and keeping the blog alive is part of what I liked about this year, but I think it's time for a change.
Oh, did I mention that I'm never going back to class? Yeah, folks! I handed in my final college project and never again have to return to that godforsaken campus. For the first time in a long time, I'm about to face Christmas and the New Year without the dreadful expectation of class in the coming months. God, that does feel great.
Meanwhile, I'm working on a few new projects, including setting up an indie production company with a couple of friends of mine. It'll be hard, but I think this will be the push I need to finally escape this country and start a real career. Oh, I also adopted two gnomes that I found in front of a vacant house a little while back (which reminds me of an ancient blog character that could use a revival). I need help naming these cute little guys that most certainly won't murder me in my sleep.
You know, I've noticed that I've become way too negative these past couple of years, and maybe it's time to change that. Most people around me seem to have gone down the same hateful rabbit-hole, and I'm not a fan of seeing friends suffer for no good reason. End-of-year melancholy is a recurring thing with me, but I'm also a fan of the Holiday season and the good that it represents, and I wish more people could feel those good bits with me. I know many associate this time of the year with horrible family members and stupid television specials, but there's more to it than that. I mean, a worldwide event where people at least try to love each other a little more sounds cool to me. I do miss the snow, though.
I'm not sure what exactly I'm trying to accomplish with this garbled nonsensical text, but I guess this year has left me tired, and I don't want to go through that again. I've seen where depression and apathy can lead, so I'd rather take a sharp turn in a new, better direction. I'm tired of relationship problems, sad distant friends and nights lost to meaningless rants. From this point on, I'm using my time for stuff that makes me less unhappy, and this blog is certainly one of those things. I guess I miss feeling things on the inside, and I'm taking serious measures to be happy again. I'd talk about my love life now, but I don't think anyone really cares.
Don't worry, though, the blog won't devolve into a happy-go-lucky comic series about me smiling at kittens and feeding the homeless (I can't really bring myself to laugh at stuff that doesn't involve at least a couple of mutilated orphans and cancer jokes), I'll just feel a little better behind the scenes, and will try to complain a little less in these rants.
I think that's it for now. I let myself ramble today because this is probably going to be the last post of the year (though I hope it isn't), but I guess I want you guys to try and find the light along with me. I'm tired of most of the internet, tired of parroted opinions and pointless bickering, so I think it's time that we all sit down and enjoy the Holidays with a little joy in our hearts.

Optiluiz here with yet another new comic, fresh from the oven! This marks the end of the first page of "The Life & Times of Optiluiz", and despite some severe shortcomings, I'm rather proud of where things are heading. Hell, I'm always happy to get the Mothman involved in my work.
Anyway, how have y'all been this week? I'm working on a new horror short featuring spooky paintings and photographs while also dealing with reviews, so I've been quite busy. It seems that the sky has been falling nonstop for these past few days, with random thunderstorms and apocalyptic lighting, and I think that's a sign that I'm on the right track.
I've also been playing a lot of Days Gone (once again, thanks to Sr. M for that!), and while it's a decidedly weird experience, I've actually been enjoying it quite a bit. My only real issue with the game (besides introducing the hordes way too late into the campaign) is that there is just way too much to do. Too many repetetive sidequests and meandering story missions that move the narrative along at a snail's pace. Meh, at least setting people on fire with molotovs is fun.
Traditionally, September is Lovecraft month for myself, so I'm getting ready to reread a few of his tales in preparation for my new short films, and I also finally managed to find copies of a few adaptations that I've been looking for since 2009. I've also got Amazon Prime now, which should make acquiring books and movies a bit easier.

Optiluiz here once more with a comic that isn't obcenely late! I mean, I know we technically haven't been following a schedule for years now, but I like how weekly updates look on my dashboard. Don't you? Anyway, how've ya'll been this week?
Today's comic has actually been ready for quite a while now, but I was rather busy with class, work and social shenanigans this week. Luckily for you guys, today I'm just wiping pizza grease off my fingertips, having just had one of my traditional double-feature picture shows. The movies in question were Detroit Rock City and Gags The Clown. I enjoyed both, but the former more than the latter.
Thanks to Sr. M's tragic lack of free time and a fortunate willingness to lend me his stuff, I've also been playing a lot of Days Gone this past week. It's no masterpiece or anything like that, but I'm having fun with the game, and I actually enjoy the motorcycle maintenance. It feels refreshing to play something recent for a change, though I think I'm going to give Mario Galaxy another try after I'm done with this one.
Well, as September rolls in, the decade is one step closer to a horrible death, and I'm not sure what that means for us but there's no stopping it, that's for sure. I feel like I've always been particularily sensitive towards what people refer to as the "zeitgeist", and I admit that I've been feeling a certain amount of anxiety about the passage of time. However, it probably has more to do with the fact that I'll be 25 years old soon, but I'd rather not discuss that right now.
I think that's about it for now, but keep tuning in for more comics. The structure of this story is going to be a bit different, but I hope you guys enjoy the new direction. Although, to be honest, I think these are strange times for everyone. The Amazon is on fire, Pepe the frog is being used a symbol of the resistance in the Hong Kong protests and billionaire pedophiles are being murdered before they can incriminate the rest of the elite. Yikes.
Well, on a lighter note, I've been feeling like a regular Hackerman these days. I can't go into details without giving the FBI even more reason to put me on a watchlist, but let's just say that a certain someone can finally play the original Clock Tower on their TV, pointing and clicking with a Wii-Mote. Don't judge me, I lead a boring life.
I hope you guys are liking the new comics, as I've got something special in store further down the line, but feedback is always appreciated. I'm not delusional enough to think I'm a great artist, but I like to think that I've learned a thing or two over the years through the bizarre project that is the ECB.
Actually, the other day I was thinking about how I've been posting less and less over the years, and how the original blog had more reviews and idiotic opinion pieces, and then I realized that I *haven't* been writing less, I've just been posting most of my opinions elsewhere, and the blog is now reserved for silly comics and even sillier life updates. So... what else? I hear Max is coming back to town, which means we might see some new crossovers, soon! I'm also working on a few new movie projects, one of which is relevant to the blog. Oh, I can also confirm that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is one of Tarantino's best movies so far.

Optiluiz here with an unexpected new post! I just got home from a nearly 10-hour voyage, but that won't stop me from bringing you the first chapter of the ECB's latest story.
Feels good to post something new for the first time in forever. For a while there, I was actually considering going back to one-shot / three-panel stories like the good old days, but I figured that I had at least one more good arc in me before throwing in the towel.
If all goes well (and I don't disappear for another year), this will be the funniest and most personal tale the ECB's seen in nearly a decade. For now, however, I hope you enjoy my mediocre drawings and ramblings. I've been in a bit of a melancholy rut lately, and was revisiting old hotmail conversations with friends (along with the blog's early days on Wordpress). All that cheerful cringe actually managed to motivate me to go back to posting regularily, and I hope things work out now.
If anyone's curious about what's become of Optiluiz in these past years, I'll give you a brief rundown of where things are at the moment: I'm nearly done with college, juggling two online writing gigs in order to stay alive and buy overpriced popcorn at the theaters, working on several projects that I hope to share with you all and trying to be less of a fat, lazy fuck.

To be honest, for a while there I thought we'd never see the end of this thing, and I'm not sure where to go from here. I mean, I've got a thousand ideas for more comics, and I know I'll never run out of things to complain about in these posts, but I've been thinking about changing things around a bit.
I've had a nearly-complete version of this post drafted for a few months now, and I've been hesitating to actually publish it for a number of reasons. Most of these are due to silly personal paranoia and a feeling of "what do I do once this is over?", but in the end, the delay is mostly due to real life. I had to turn in my final college project last week, and this semester has honestly been killing me.
Hell, even outside of college things haven't exactly been easy, but the ECB was never far from my thoughts. I like it here, and as we approach the blog's sort-of 10th anniversary, I've been thinking a lot about how this has always been a safe haven for all my stupid ideas to flourish away from prying eyes (I mean, come on, it's not like anyone ever visits).
This is why I know I'll still be posting in the near future, and with Max having returned to town, I'm pretty sure we'll have a few surprises in store for you guys very soon. So, anyone else check out the Oscars on Sunday? I've been keeping up with them for quite a few years now, and while they've never been much more than a manipulative scheme orchestrated by the Illuminati a somewhat entertaining pasttime, this last ceremony was pretty bad, even for awards show standards. Shape of Water definitely didn't deserve that award, but I'm glad Del Toro might finally be taken seriously now, so we may yet see his version of At The Mountains of Madness!
I've been rewatching that early 2000s MTV Spider-Man show again, which is always great. Aesthetically speaking, it's definitely my favorite version of the character, and I'd love a Spider-Man movie that looks (and sounds) like that. Alas, it seems the future of everything I love seems destined to involve child-friendly productions with no regard for style or atmosphere. Hunh. I'm such an old man.

Optiluiz here once more, only a few months late this time! Jesus Christ, I shouldn't have taken this long to post. Not just because these comics need to be completed, but because now I have to get everyone up to speed with the honestly uneventful drag rollercoaster ride that is my life.
I hope you're all doing fine in this year of our (dark) lord 2018. I'm doing alright, myself, but since I last posted... a lot of shit went down. I'll try to sum things up as best as I can, but to be honest, these have been some of the weirdest and busiest moments of my life.
Let me see... I stood only a few meters away from Hideo Kojima with my dude Mário during our first visit to São Paulo back in October, which was pretty cool. The gaming event itself was rather disappointing, especially since we were denied autographs (press doesn't have THAT many perks, apparently), but that's alright because I finally met our number one (and possibly only) fan, Rasg Girl (Maah)! It only took 7 years, but hey, what do you expect from the world's least punctual blogger?
So, in honor of my cosmic sister, here's a random doodle of a mechanically-improved version of her, immune to anxiety attacks and who's not afraid to come visit me in Curitiba every once in a while.
Well, in November I wrapped production on one of the first film school shorts that I'm actually proud of, although there's still miles to go before it's finalized. I don't think I should show it to you guys yet, but trust me when I say the wait will be worth the wait (hah, optimism!), and it gave me ideas for a 2018 project which you'll read about eventually.
In December I travelled to São Paulo again for Comic-Con, fulfilling a life-long dream of going to these cool events for free, and even managed to hang out with Maah again, which was awesome. I met some great people at the event as well, like the insanely talented Ben Templesmith and even Sam Hart (who gifted me with signed copies of Atomic Blonde and the graphic novel it's based on!). I even helped out with a college buddy's TV show and got to see a free Gamarjobat show! All in all, it was pretty fun.
Of course, I experienced my yearly sabbatical in Maringá during this summer vacation, and finally got around to reading Frank Herbert's Dune (courtesy of my dude, Mário). I was also certified as a critic for a particular movie theater franchise, which is awesome. Other than that, I guess I just slept watched movies, slept played videogames and slept chilled out as much as possible, as I'm liable to do. I'm probably forgetting a lot here, but I can always add stuff to the post scriptum, right?
More recently, I spent some of January in Florianópolis, a tropical island that REALLY looks like a Jurassic Park set (once again, courtesy of Mário). During my time there I reread some old blog posts, and realized that I had somehow lost the passion behind much of my writing since then, which is something I'm trying to remedy now, both here and on Bloody Disgusting (where you should totally check out my latest article about Marble Hornets).
2018 feels like it's going to be another big year, which is one of the reasons why I finally decided to start posting again. I like my tiny corner of the internet, and it feels good to keep hypothetical readers updated. I'm not sure what the future holds, but it will most likely feature some of my shitty humor and badly-drawn comics, and that's good enough for me.
In the coming weeks, I hope to finally end the Veteran of a Thousand Meme Wars arc and start something new, so I'd keep an eye out for more comics in the near future. Thank you very much for visiting, and I'll leave you with a song that helps me out late at night.

I've also finished replaying God of War 3 with Mario, which means that I've replayed every single God of War game in 2017! Sadly, I'm not all that excited for the new one, but who knows, right? In other news, I've also been watching some WKYK, which I'd recommend to anyone who has the same shitty sense of humor that I do.
Not much else to say today, as I've gotta take a long nap and dream about having a robust social life, where gathering a group of friends to play Monopoly isn't an insurmountable struggle. Ta-ta for now, but I'll leave you folks with a classic cooper song in celebration of my good fortune.

How've you been? Optiluiz here once more with yet another exciting chapter in the Veteran of a Thousand Meme Wars saga! I'd apologize for the comic being a little late, but come on, can you really be late if there was never any expectation for you to be on time? Think about that for a minute.
Anyway, these past few weeks have been pretty crazy. I had my first official journalistic gig, revamped some old projects and even met a few celebrities. I've also seen some kick-ass movies, like the new It and a remastered version of Akira in theaters.
I actually had today's comic prepared for a while now, I just couldn't find the time to post it in between college and consuming dank meme compilations. Either way, despite how hectic things get, life has been alright. I'm still struggling to find players for my Call of Cthulhu campaign, but I think that will be resolved eventually.

Optiluiz here once more with yet another late comic! How've y'all been? I've been rather busy with driver's ed ( a little late in the game, I know) and life general, but I guess it's time for some more crudely drawn doodles, eh? Not like we have anything better to do, right?
Well, I can actually drive now, just not legally, as the final exam is only next month. I'm free from college until the 14th, and that's pretty cool. I'm also preparing for a Wet Hot American Summer marathon with the peeps (sorry) tomorrow. I've been reading some more Clive Barker as well, so I guess you could say that I'm enjoying my break from 'real' life.
All in all, life is pretty swell, and things are finally winding down after a busy and eventful year. That constant existential droning is still there, but hell, what else is new? I don't have much else to say today, but I'll leave you guys with a kickass tune that reminds of french slashers and my teenage years.

Optiluiz here once more to- aw hell, you know the drill. The fact is, I once again performed one of my world-famous disappearing tricks, and somehow wound up in late July without updating the blog. Sorry, I guess.
Well, I hope ya'll enjoy today's comic, which marks the long-awaited end of the second page of Veteran of a Thousand Meme Wars. However, it's certainly not the last one, as this story will be larger than last year's.
These past few months have actually been pretty fun, despite some more of those horrific setbacks that life puts in our way just to fuck with us. Either way, college has been alright, I managed to travel to Maringá once again, and I saw a shitload of fun movies. What else do you need, right?
In all honesty, I missed posting here, but there's been so much shit to keep up with that I somehow let the Epic Club Blog fade into the background of my life. Hopefully that'll change, but at this point my unexplained disappearances have become part of my blog persona.
I guess that's all for now, but I hope ya'll have a great week. If all goes well, I'll post more in a few days, to try and make up for lost time. PS: Since my last post, I binged American Gods and loved it more than the book, watched some great movies and finished Uncharted 4.
PPS: I also found this weird interactive single-player RPG novel that's honestly pretty fun, if a bit pathetic.
PPPS: I might update you guys on my personal projects soon, but to be honest I'm embarassed by some of it, and it might be best to shroud myself in mystery. For the blog's sake.

I don't have much to say today, now that I think of it. Not because I haven't done anything interesting these past few days, but because I don't really feel like writing about it. I guess I just want to zone out and play some Elder Scrolls Online for a while.
Well, I did buy a new UFO book about Area 51. My computer is also back, which is awesome. It feels great to be a part of the internet again. I'm also trying to get into shortwave radio, due to Reviewbrah's VORW Broadcast, which I'm a big fan of.

Optiluiz here once more with a fresh post, straight out of the oven! I was going to do this later but since Elder Scrolls Online is updating, why not post right now, right? Hope everyone had a good week, as I most certainly didn't. At least today is Friday, and it looks like things are taking a turn for the best.
Editing is almost done on my latest college project, though I'm not sure how it's going to turn out. At the very least it will be an interesting watch, though it's kind of sad to not see your vision fully realized on the "big" screen. Other than that, I've mostly spent my time watching Supernatural and subsequently complaining about it.
I watched the new Mummy movie last night, and it reminded me of a worrying trend in Hollywood of making decent movies and then fucking up the ending. More than a few people have commented that my opinion on most recent movies is always "it was alright, but the ending was shit". I honestly hope that these big studios get their shit together.
That's all I'm willing to write for today, as the update is nearly finished, and I need to kill some fantastical creatures in order to wind down after this troubling week. I've been living as a reclusive hermit these past few weeks, since the death of my laptop, but I'm glad to say that by early next week my computer will return, good as new! While being away from the internet is rather strange, I'd be lying if I said that the experience wasn't rather refreshing. Well, to be honest, I wasn't totally away from the internet...
You see, I've been using this time to level up in Elder Scrolls Online and finish watching Samurai Jack. Both these activities have been keeping sane, and I entirely recommend that you do the same if life gets in the way of... life.

PS: Anyone else saw the japanese cut of Johnny Mnemnic? Holy shit that movie was trippy.
PPS: The ending of Samurai Jack could have been better, but the show as a whole is definitely in my top 10 best TV series of all time.

I'm writing this post with some degree of difficulty, from a computer that would have been considered top-notch back when tamagotchis were still a thing. Nevertheless, I couldn't let something this trivial get in the way of our usual programming, haha!
